Vision:

The Vision of the English Department at Laghman University is to develop the department as a center for academic excellence through teaching and research that encourages and nurtures literary sensibilities, language competence and critical thinking.

The Department offers a coherent BA Curriculum based on the following strengths.

  • Credibility, both of faculty and graduates

Throughout our program, there is a commitment to reading, critical and creative thinking, inquiry and ways of knowing, writing and speaking skills as mutually supportive and enhancing.  Students are also exposed to a wide range of literature, traditions, research, approaches and theoretical issues, but with an emphasis of establishing a clear grasp of major concern on English language integrated skills, culture and literature.

Mission:

Department of English helps students build knowledge of the contents and methods of literary studies, English language education, research in social sciences, professional and creative writing.

The overall mission of the Department of English at Laghman University is to engage learners in writing, research, teaching, and public service that advance our understanding of the field English through Creative Writing, Literature, and Professional Writing.

It focuses on the curriculum recognized by the respected Ministry of Higher Education and it’s based on credit system. Upon delivering the curriculum to the learners, the Department of English seeks to provide students with an education of the highest quality in the English Language medium.

Goals:

  • Educate students to read critically, write clearly and imaginatively, think logically, and speak articulately about literature and English language.
  • Promote critical literacy, that is, the capacity to interpret, evaluate, and contextualize literary and social text.
  • Acquire and disseminate knowledge of our expanding literary and cultural heritages 
  • Teach a historical sense of language and literatures in English in all their diversity to the multicultural student body from the nation.
