History of the Department of Forestry and Natural resources
The Department of Forestry and Natural resources was established in 1389 (2010) alongside the founding of the Faculty of Agriculture at Laghman University. This department was created in the same year. Based on the directives and requirements of the esteemed Ministry of Higher Education, two professional lecturers were hired for this department. Currently, the department has five lecturers, one of whom is pursuing a master’s degree abroad, while the remaining four are actively engaged in their academic and professional programs.
Until now, the department has graduated ten batches who are now serving the community. Currently, with the collaboration and endeavors of the university administration, most issues have been addressed, and the operations of the department are advancing smoothly.
Vision
The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, through the training of academic human resources, strives to play a significant role in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan, afforestation and forest management, as well as the rational and sustainable utilization and conservation of other natural resources.
Mission
The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, by preparing professional and specialized staff, is committed to the rational use and protection of the country’s natural resources—such as forests, rangelands, wildlife, and the enhancement of forest products—along with the proper management of forests and rangelands, the prevention of desertification, and the preservation of ecological balance, so that human society may enjoy environmental security and a self-reliant economy.
Aims
- To provide scientific and academic personnel to society with who are enterprising, motivated and capable of professional leadership.
- Protecting and developing forests in the country based on world best technology and scientific bases of forestry.
- To train academic staff. improve the beauty of the country's cities and to prevent different types of pollution.
- Identifying the ecologically important areas of the world and the country and their scientifically protection.
- Identification of Afghanistan natural resources and their sound management.
- Development of effective technologies to prevent desert development.
- International promotion of environmental protection, global warming and the reduction of natural hazards for students.
- The students of the said department are obliged to follow other basic agricultural and academic courses of other related departments of the department in addition to the special and general courses of the department in order to be eligible for the degree.
