Agricultural Economics and Extension Department Overview:

Vision:

Training of students on the basis of Islamic, national and democratic principles, to take an active part in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan and to respond to the needs of their region in the academic department of the university.

Mission:

 The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension as an academic institution is committed to train undergraduate graduates in agricultural economics and promotion in the field and profession to serve the society in the public and private sectors.  To provide relevant education and training by having experienced and professional teachers, and in addition to this, to solve existing problems and conduct research to access new developments, which will result in social development.

The History of agriculture economic and extension department:

According to the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture, laghman University was established in 1389, and the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension was joined in the same year that two professional teachers were employed in this department with the necessary view and order of the Ministry of Higher Education.  Currently, there are 6 lecture in this department, two of whom are studying for doctorate and one for master's degree in foreign countries, and the remaining three of them, two for master's degree and one for bachelor's degree, are actively engaged in their academic studies.  And it conducts professional programs in which 93 students, 7 of whom are females, are studying in this department. So far, eight graduates have offered service to the community with approval.

Aims:

 1. Analysis the economic issues of agricultural production.

 2. Conducting scientific research on agriculture and conveying the results of this research to farmers through promotional programs.

 3. Using statistical methods in agricultural research.

 4. Knowledge about the market of agricultural products.

 5. Sharing ideas with students and cooperative societies related to new technology in the agricultural sector.

 6. Bringing positive changes in the public awareness, skills and attitudes of farmers so that the standard of living increases.

 7. To study the government policy and laws related to the agricultural sector.

 8. Obeying the existing agricultural policy and laws of the agricultural sector and encouraging students.

 9. Bringing new ideas to the rural people and improving their skills.

 10. Increasing the level of technical efficiency of each unit of production in the agricultural sector

 11. Acquiring job related knowledge.

 12. To increase the capacity of human resources for agricultural knowledge.

 13. Writing a proposal for an agricultural project and educating the students on the principles of planning, managing, and implementing an agricultural project.

 14. To create a cooperative spirit among the farmers
