English Department Overview:

History of English Language and Literature Department

Literature and Human Sciences Faculty is one of the four faculties at Laghman University. The mentioned faculty has four departments among which English Department was established in 1392 Persian calendar. So far, this department has graduated eight batches to serve the community. Which can be explained as follow:

  1. In 1396, 33 graduates including (2) Female and (31) Male students.
  2. In 1397, 50 graduates including (0) Female and (55) Male students.
  3. In 1398, 39 graduates including (0) Female and (39) Male students.
  4. In 1399, 77 graduates including (0) Female and (77) Male students.
  5. In 1400, 71 graduates including (1) Female and (71) Male students.
  6. In 1401, 61 graduates including (2) Female and (61) Male students.
  7. In 1402, 55 graduates including (0) Female and (55) Male students.
  8. In 1403, 46 graduates including (0) Female and (46) Male students.

In (1404), English Department has totally (195) students which has the following explanation

First class: 50 students

Second class: 56 students

Third class: 34 students

Fourth class: 32 students

Currently, English Department has eight instructors. As two of the instructors are busy in their doctorate program thus the teaching activities are conducted by five regular and five contracted instructors. The introduction of the formal instructors is as follow:

Vision and Mission Statements

Vision

The English Department at Laghman University (LU) is confident that this university (LU) will provide leadership and support for the professional development of English speakers and English language instructors at this university and throughout Afghanistan.

In four years, LU will provide a Bachelor of Arts degree in English language and literature.

Mission

The goal of this program is to prepare students to use, teach and access English for professional purposes, access global information, interact and work with international organization and communities, further their education, and ultimately to improve the quality of life for themselves, their community , and their country.

The English Department at Laghman University believes that it should meet the highest standards of academic quality within the context of Afghanistan’s Islamic values and cultural traditions.
